Other Riches

An empty pedestal and a pile of burning fool's gold. Other Riches brings together two works shown at Domínio Público at Casa Nua in São Paulo. Uncrowned is a photograph of the pedestal, a throne of validation still waiting for an artwork that never arrives. Unthroned is a video loop of the gold burning on a floor, cast down from the hierarchy of currency and freed from both the pedestal and the need for anyone's permission.

One has no subject and the other has no stage, and together they point towards the riches we find when we stop looking only where we are told to look. Both were made purely with a lens, without AI. The composition and subject were chosen specifically to be impossible with the AI tools at the time. The combination of realistic flame and reflected, diffracted light hitting 3D textured objects was not possible when this was made, making it both evidence of human artistic effort and a declaration of its continued importance.
